The Sanitech Government Projects Division specialises in providing sanitation solutions to government sponsored projects from informal settlements (where there may be no proper sanitation facilities in place) through to schools (where the current sanitation facilities may be unsafe and unsuitable).
When the Sanatham settlement was flooded, the uMdoni Municipality declared it a disaster area. Sanitech were able to immediately supply toilet units to relieve sanitation pressures. The units were serviced twice a week and the Sanitech team worked with the community leaders and the local municipality to continually improve the service. Initially supplied on a month-to-month basis, six years later Sanitech holds the tender to provide sanitation solutions to the area.
Sanitech often works in partnership with other service providers. Mshengu is an appointed contractor for the municipalities of the Cape, servicing portable toilet units in over 20 settlements. Sanitech are sub-contracted by Mshengu to service these units 2 or 3 times per week on their behalf. The Cape has the largest need for portable sanitation within informal settlements. Sanitech is a major player having contracts with Stellenbosch Municipality, Witzenberg Municipality (Cape Winelands District) and the Drakenstein Municipality.
Big cities can bring big issues. Sanitech have the capacity to deal with scale when required. They are currently supplying and servicing toilet units in the Ekurhuleni area and within the City of Tshwane. These contracts have been in place since 2011.
The burgeoning informal settlements in the George area posed a real challenge for the municipalities. Working together with Sanitech, portable sanitation solutions were applied to the Syferfontein and Borchards settlements. Units are serviced on an ongoing basis. Sanitech also won the tender to supply temporary toilet units to the families in Asazani - Thembalethu. As Sanitech’s toilets are a portable solution they were able to decrease the number of units monthly, as families in the area move into permanent houses.
