Sanitech was originally established in the 1974 as the first portable toilet hire company in South Africa and in 1996 the Hygiene division was established. In 2007 the business growth continued after Sanitech was purchased, and began receiving the global support of Waco International. As a result, the company grew to over 20 branches nationwide and expanded into Africa and is currently trading in 5 African countries with continued expansion in the pipeline. Today Sanitech is the leading service provider of Integrated environmental solutions for Hygiene and Sanitation in Africa.

In 2014, Sanitech embarked on a new innovation era, which saw the introduction of Integrated Facilities Solutions including daily & specialised cleaning, hygiene washroom solutions, washroom hygiene treatment and pest control.

Sanitech continues to seek new opportunities for growth and in saying so after numerous attempts, successfully purchased the well-established Gem-Care company as from January 2017. Gem-Care was originally established over 20 years ago by the Daws family and continued to grow into a successful cleaning and hygiene company with a clientele of Blue chip companies. Richard Daws, the previous co-owner of Gem-Care, said: “I am pleased to be selling to Sanitech, and have been careful to select the right partner, who will not only take care of our legacy, but who also has the ability to take the business to the next level.”

Gemcare will provide further expertise and skills into a range of service solutions including specialised cleaning services and their broad range of industries in which they operate, will allow Sanitech to continue their Integrated Services portfolios into Retail, Medical and Corporate. The acquisition of Gem-Care will also provide the geographical service delivery needed in the expansion of the Johannesburg, Ekurhuleni and Tshwane Metros for Sanitech and to be a part of an exciting growth strategy for this region.
